Certificate in Systems Administration
Level: 6 - If you have experience working in the ICT/computing industry and are serious about seeking advanced skills (and a salary to match), the Certificate in Systems Administration will give you expert skills that are recognised internationally and sought after industry wide. The Certificate in Systems Administration incorporates the official Microsoft courseware, useful if you wish to do examinations that lead to the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) which has replaced the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA). The programme provides the knowledge and skills required to analyse business requirements and design, implement and support Microsoft networks and systems, in a wide range of client and server environments.

What are my career options after completing the Certificate in Systems Administration?

The Certificate in Systems Administration can lead you into a number of different jobs and areas of responsibility, but the most common career options for our graduates are:

  • Network Administrator
  • Support Technician
  • IT Systems Integrator
  • IT Manager

It is likely that you would take on the responsibility for network(s) with an organisation. This includes working with all hardware such as servers, workstations, printers, routers and other equipment on local area and wide area networks. Network administrators are
often responsible for vendor relations as well.

What will I study?

To gain the Certificate in Systems Administration, students are required to successfully complete nine courses. Subjects include:

  • Operating Systems
  • Network Administration Applied
  • Network Infrastructure
  • Fundamentals of Security
  • Firewall/Proxy Server
  • Groupware Server Administration

The most widely recognised IT certifications available are the:

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

The Certificate in Systems Administration incorporates all requirements for the examinations leading to MCSE and MCSA status. These examinations can now be taken at CPIT for an additional fee or at any approved examination centre.
