Architecturally designed, and purpose built as a contemporary school of music in 1998, the CPIT boasts some of the finest technical facilities and music based work environments in New Zealand. And with coded key card security access to the facilities from 6.00am to 12.00am, our students have total flexibility in their study, rehearsal and performance schedules.

Auditorium

Our main performance space comprises of:

  • 200 seat auditorium
  • 7 metre x 4 metre stage area
  • 2000 watt PA system
  • 24 channel mixing desk
  • On-stage Monitoring / Foldback system
  • Recording way-lines through to the recording studio
  • Selection of top quality microphones and accessories
  • Concert lighting system
  • Yamaha Concert grand piano

Rehearsal & Practice Facilities

In addition to the above performance space, there are six fully equipped, air conditioned and sound-proofed rehearsal studios. Each studio has a PA and music playback system, acoustic piano, a selection of top quality guitar & bass amplifiers, and classic / vintage & hi-technology keyboard equipment.

Eight additional individual practice studios are also available to students - each with upright piano, stereo playback system and instrument backline amplifiers

Recording Studio

Our digital recording studio is acoustically designed, with way-lines through to the auditorium and to two separate acoustically treated drum and vocal booths. There is a fully automated console, unlimited computer based multi-tracking and processing, a 24 track hard disk back up recording system and, of course, a large selection of industry standard top quality microphones and outboard accessories.

We regularly record in-house concerts and performances, as well as student and staff recording projects and are proud to have recorded and released many top-quality recordings from this envious facility.

Computer Suite

Our students enjoy 24 computer/keyboard workstations, each equipped with the latest industry standard computer software for composition, score writing and music production as well, of course, as all of the latest office and publishing programs for academic studies. A high speed internet connection links the suite with the campus IT network, allowing total freedom of access and 100% back-up for all information.

All equipment is regularly maintained by our full-time engineer / technician, and our programme software is updated frequently.

Music Resources and Library

A comprehensive music library of CD, DVD and original vinyl pressings, embracing a wide range of musical styles and genres. Currently listing more than 5,000 titles, the library is updated constantly and all titles will soon be available via electronic access on our network.
