Having had a taste of jazz music during his time at Burnside High School, Gerard Masters decided he wanted to forge a career in the world of jazz and enrolled in CPIT’s Diploma in Jazz.
Since 1991, CPIT Jazz School has built a reputation as being a focus for excellence in contemporary music education in Christchurch. Our history in jazz, popular and rock music education has produced many graduates who are well established in the NZ and international muic scenes
Now a part of CPIT’s progressive School of Performing Arts, CPIT Jazz School is now entering the next phase of it’s evolution with a new degree - the Bachelor of Musical Arts. The BMusArts offers something for anyone with a passion for music be it Jazz, Popular/Rock or Music Production.
The CPIT programmes of study in Musical Arts are:
Bachelor of Musical Arts
Level: 7 - The programme consists of practical and theoretical courses in a variety of music and music related topics including instrumental or vocal practical study, music theory, composition, arranging, history, improvisation, sound, technology and a supervised research project in the final year.
Since the music industry is so large, it’s not surprising that career opportunities are extensive. And, since music transcends all language barriers, as a graduate of our degree your career won’t be limited in terms of geography. You could find yourself working in any country in the world.
In addition, newly created jobs are emerging every year, influenced by the rapid evolution of technology. You could find yourself composing for online and offline gaming, websites or mobile phones…wherever multimedia goes, music will be there.
