CPIT Mental Health Support Work programmes provide students with the knowledge and skills to work in the mental health industry in community settings.

The CPIT School of Nursing programmes of study in Mental Health Support are:

National Certificate in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work)
Level: 4 - The National Certificate in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work) is based on a recovery approach to mental illness. As a mental health support worker you will carry out a supportive relationship with people who have been or are experiencing mental illness. As a support worker you will enable consumers/tangata whai ora to develop and implement individual lifestyle or support plans. You will work within a framework for practice informed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ethical standards, health standards, service specifications, and legislation.

National Diploma in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work)
Level: 6 - The National Diploma in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work) is based on a recovery approach to mental illness. As a mental health support worker at this level of capability you demonstrate integrated practice theory in your mental health support work.

The National Certificate in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work) classes are held one day each week during the term. Students are also expected to do 15 hours work in a mental health setting each week during term. There are no exams for this programme - assessments are based on the students’ completed workbook.
