The CPIT School of Nursing programme for the Certificate in Nursing is:

Certificate in Nursing (Long Term Care and Rehabilitation)
Level: 4 - This programme focuses on areas of practice where clients/patients require long term care and rehabilitation. Competencies for the nurse assistant include professional responsibility, management of care, interpersonal relationships, and inter-professional health care and quality improvement.

A Nursing Assistant is a person who has completed a programme approved by the Nursing Council and, subject to meeting the prescribed requirements, is entered onto the Register of Nurse Assistants.

The Certificate in Nursing (Long Term Care and Rehabilitation) is an intensive, integrated programme undertaken over one year. It is a Nursing Council requirement that Nurse Assistants must at all times work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (a nurse who has completed a three year nursing programme).

The Certificate in Nursing programme will prepare students to work in assisting Registered Nurses to deliver nursing care to individuals in community, residential and hospital settings, specifically in areas of practice where clients require long term care and/or rehabilitation.

Due to the introduction of the Health Professionals Competency Assurance Act the Certificate in Enrolled Nursing has become the Registered Nurse Assistant programme and graduates are eligible to be entered on the Register of Nurse Assistants (not on the Roll of Nurses which is now closed).
