Accounting Technicians functions include: recording transactions; preparing accounts and statements; providing financial and management information; contributing to planning and controlling activities; managing accounting systems; contributing to the establishment and monitoring of accounting systems and working in the various fields of taxation.
May lead to: Through the Institute of Chartered Accountants, ATs have access to continuing professional development, appropriate training for their profession and promotion to employers of the accounting technician designation.
Students who choose to specialise in marketing would expect to be employed in one of the following type of roles: marketing assistant; publishing assistant; advertising assistant; administration assistant; customer services; sales support.
May lead to: brand manager, product manager, marketing manager.
Students who choose to specialise in event management would expect to be employed in one the following type of roles: fundraisers; event managers of conferences, festivals, arts and tourism events; facility based event managers; public relations; sponsorship and marketing.
Students who choose to specialise in management would expect to be employed in one of the following type of roles: administration assistant; customer services; project management assistant.
May lead to: middle management positions such as branch manager, senior sales, production or delivery managers.
Students who choose to specialise in Personnel/Human Resources will gain the skills required to be a Human Resource/Personnel Assistant in a large company or in a human resource management position in a smaller organisation. They will also gain the skills required to complement general or specific management roles that require an understanding of the underlying theories and practices of effective people management.
They may be employed as: human resource administrator, health and safety officer, staff training officer and salaries officer.
May lead to: employment consultant, personnel manager, human resource planning manager, project manager - human resources.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Innovation and Enterprise would expect to be managers in mainly small to medium enterprises or in self employment.
Students who choose to specialise in new venture planning would expect to set up their own business either self-employment or in a corporate enterprise.
