Having secured a job as a Human Resources Coordinator without a relevant qualification, Kirsty Fitzgerald felt it was wise to get one so enrolled part time in CPIT's NZ Diploma in Business.
The CPIT programmes of study in Business are:
Bachelor of Applied Management
Level: 7 - The programme comprises core courses in accounting, professional communication, commercial law, business heritage, culture and sustainability, marketing, computing, management and research methods. A maximum of 75 elective credits are also included and these may come from previous study in an approved diploma or degree. In addition to core and elective courses, majors are offered in Accounting, Business Information Systems, Business Transformation and Change, Event Management, Food and Beverage Management*, Hotel Management*, Human Resource Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Operations and Production Management*, Project Management, Sales and Marketing, Sport Management, Strategic Management*, and Tourism Management*. Students, through the use of course electives, can complete a double major.

Certificate in Applied Business Practice
Level: 3 - This programme will provide the skills necessary to develop a career in administration. There is an emphasis on building document production and keyboarding skills. Other courses include generic computer applications, office administration and customer service. Electives for on-the-job training include professional office, general office, retail banking, computer customer service and warehousing/distribution.
Diploma in Accounting
Level: 5 - The aim of the Diploma in Accounting is to provide you with appropriate knowledge and skills, including accounting principles, accounting practices, financial and/or management accounting and/or taxation.
Diploma in Business
Level: 5 - The aim of this programme is to provide you with practically based skills and knowledge in general business areas such as communication and management, and provide the opportunity for introductory study in specialist areas such as accounting, marketing, computing, law and economics.
Diploma in Human Resource Management
Level: 5 - The aim of this programme is to provide you with appropriate knowledge and skills, including communication, computing, management, employment relations, and human resource management.
Diploma in Marketing
Level: 5 - The aim of the Diploma in Marketing is to provide you with appropriate knowledge and skills, including communications, computing, management, marketing principles and applied marketing.
Graduate Diploma in Accounting
Level: 7 - Content builds on basic accounting and includes financial and management accounting, taxation, advanced financial and management accounting and an industry project
Graduate Diploma in Business Information Systems
Level: 7 - Content includes applied computing, business analysis essentials, systems development project, management of information and communication technologies, advanced business analysis and an industry project.
Graduate Diploma in Business Transformation and Change
Level: 7 - Content includes applied computing, leadership, organisational behaviour, business transformation and change, strategic management and an industry project.
Graduate Diploma in Event Management
Level: 7 - Content includes project management, event planning and management, event logistics, event marketing and sponsorship, event project and an internship
Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management

Graduate Diploma in Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Graduate Diploma in Sales and Marketing
Level: 7 - Content includes market development and sales, buyer behaviour and communication strategies, marketing planning and control, international marketing, strategic marketing and an industry project
National Certificate in Business (First Line Management)
Level: 4 - This programme comprises courses in training and development, health and safety, time management, performance management, change management, conflict management, organisational principles, workplace relationships, and team leadership
National Certificate in Retail
Level: 3 - The overall aim of this Programme is to assist students to progress within the sales and customer service industries.
National Diploma in Business
Level: 5 - Course studied include Developing Personal and Organisational Plans, Financial and Information Management, Leadership Skills, Marketing, Developing and Promoting Workplace Practices, Change Management, Organisational Principles and Positive Workplace Relationships
New Zealand Diploma in Business
Level: 6 - This programme develops practically-based skills and knowledge in general business areas such as communication, commercial law, economics and provides the opportunity to specialise in areas such as accounting, marketing, human resources or management.
You will also develop problem solving, critical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills and the capability to work independently.
NZIM Diploma in Management
Level: 5 - This programme aims to provide you with appropriate knowledge and skills, including communication, management, leadership and applied management.
As well as providing hands-on training in a range of business knowledge, principles, practices and skills, CPIT's Business programmes are work-focused. Some of our courses involve projects with local businesses providing an excellent opportunity to try out your skills under the guidance of our tutorial staff, and often a way into employment with a particular firm.
