The CPIT New Zealand Broadcasting School programme of study for broadcasting communications is:

Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications
Level: 7 - In this highly practical, skill based programme, students will study in one of three streams - digital film and television production, radio or broadcast journalism. Radio students run a commercial format radio station; in journalism students contribute news bulletins to the radio station and for television news. For TV students produce music videos, promotions, documentary or drama and news bulletins with the journalism students. Students will also complete a six month industry internship.

  • Broadcast Journalism - Journalism students work as reporters, sub-editors, presenters and researchers running their own newsrooms producing bulletins on radio and television in Christchurch. These students generally end up working in radio or television newsrooms throughout the country.
  • Radio Production & Performance - Radio students utilise all their production and performance skills in the operation of a commercial radio station broadcasting throughout the Christchurch urban area. These graduates typically move into stand-alone or network radio stations in roles as diverse as on-air presenting, creative writing, programming, production, promotions or sales.
  • Digital Film & Television Production – Film and television students gain a broad range of production skills while immersed in projects including documentaries, dramas, music videos, experimental films, various studio productions and news programmes. These students can look forward to careers with TV or production companies in direction, production, camera, sound, screenwriting, research, editing and various other post production roles.

The New Zealand Broadcasting School also provides an executive option to the Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications degree for industry professionals wishing to complete the degree part-time and off-campus.
