Preparing to study

Once you have been accepted to study your programme, or if the programme is “open entry” this check list will help make sure you have done everything necessary to start your studies; it is broken into 4 steps:

Step 1 – Plan your study

  • Choose the courses from your programme that you want to study.
  • Create your personal timetable of classes.
  • Make sure that none of your course times ‘clash’.

Step 2 – Enrol either online or using the paper form

Online (returning and ‘accepted’ students):

  • Log in to the online enrolment system (“Jasper Online”).
  • Check your personal details and update if necessary.
  • Choose your courses and indicate payment method.
  • Check that your courses show as “Confirmed enrolment”.

Paper form (other students):

  • Check your personal details and update if necessary.
  • Complete all questions under “statistical information”.
  • Include your course choices (a full year of courses is advisable).
  • Indicate how you will be paying your fees {link to payment methods}.
  • Sign and date your enrolment form.
  • If not validated to level 2, attach a verified copy of your IDOCs.

Step 3 – Pay for your study before classes start

By student loan:

  • Check with Studylink to see whether you are eligible for a student loan and/or allowance.
  • Indicate (on line or on the enrolment form) that you are paying by student loan.
  • Contact Studylink and apply for your loan (0800 88 99 00).

Other means including; check, bank draft, internet banking, telegraphic transfer, EFTPOS, cheque or credit card. Please see the “Payment methods” page for more details.

Step 4 – Prepare for your first day at CPIT

  • Check that you have your CPIT student login/password.
  • Obtain your CPIT student ID card (payment receipt needed).
  • Check the location and times of your first classes (look at your timetable).
  • Familiarise yourself with the CPIT campus where you will be studying.
  • Obtain your student car parking pass from the Security Office.
  • Check out the Student Association orientation plans.
  • If necessary, access extra support with your studies (e.g. disability/Maori/literacy).
