Early Learning Centre

Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) has a modern, well equipped centre for children from 6 months to 5 years.
The Centre offers quality care and education and is located in a purpose built building sited at the rear of Te Puna Wânaka Maori building. It has allocated parking available for the drop off and collection of children.
The Centre is open to all users, not just students. Parents attending courses at the CPIT should enquire about pre-enrolling their children in the Centre.

When is the Early Learning Centre open?
Our Centre is open all year except for approx. three weeks at Christmas, all statutory holidays and Easter Tuesday.
We offer full or half day sessions:
- morning session
7.30 am - 12.30 pm , Monday to Friday - afternoon session
12.30 pm - 5.30 pm , Monday to Thursday
12.30 pm - 4.45 pm , Friday
Enrolment Requirements
- A minimum booking of 3.5 hours per session or 7 hours per day is required
- Children are required to be enrolled for a minimum of two sessions per week.
- Parents/caregivers are required to give three weeks notice if they intend to take their child out of care or reduce their child's sessions.
How much does the Centre cost?

The Centre will hold your child’s place through the summer break provided you pay the holding fee shown above.
The holding fee applies only four weeks before the centre closes for the Christmas break and two weeks after the centre re-opens . Your child can still attend for their usual sessions and all you pay is the holding fee. Full fees will apply at all other times of the year including the term holidays.
The Centre will charge full fees for absence due to illness.

The Centre will charge full fees from 16 January 2007 (when the Centre opens) until 21 December 2007 (when the Centre closes).
For community and staff the Centre provides a leave entitlement of 30 days absence charged at 50% per full time booking.
This entitlement is also offered to families of children who attend the Centre part time on a pro-rata basis. The Centre must receive one week’s written notification of intended leave in order for the entitlement to be used.
The Centre will charge full fees for absence due to illness unless one week’s notice is given (e.g. for a hospital stay).
WINZ Childcare Subsidy
If you qualify WINZ (Work & Income NZ) can subsidise up to 9 hours of childcare a week (for each child). In some cases WINZ will subsidise up to 50 hours a week if you are in training or work.
WINZ administer the childcare subsidy. They have printed a brochure with more information about the childcare subsidies - if you would like a copy sent to you, please phone the Early Learning Centre on 940 8075 or phone WINZ on 0800 559 009.
20 Hours early Childhood Education (free)
CPIT Early Learning Centre offers 20 hours ECE (free) to all 3 and 4 year olds enrolled and attending our Centre for upto 6 hours per day, upto 20 hours per week.
The number of free ECE hours you can enrol your child for will depend on the places available. An information book about 20hours ECE is available from the centre.
All parents are required to fill in an Attestation form; this is provided by the centre at your request.
How do you enrol your child
In the first instance you will need to complete the "Request for Enrolment" form. Once the centre receives this, you officially go on the waiting list.
If we are able to offer you any of the session(s) you have requested we will contact you. If we cannot offer you care immediately, your name will remain on our waiting list. We encourage you to contact us if your need for childcare changes in anyway.
We encourage all families who are wanting to use the centre to come in and visit us. You are welcome to visit the centre at any time to observe and meet the staff.
