CPIT student Lucy Ryan credits the practical experience gained through her Graduate Diploma in Event Management at CPIT with her success in entering the events industry. She secured her ‘dream job’ this week as the new Events Co-ordinator for Sports Canterbury.
As part of her programme of study Lucy completed a 5 month internship with Sports Canterbury this year, helping to plan and organise 5 different events aimed at earthquake recovery.
She particularly enjoyed her final two weeks in the internship position, touring schools with a reinvention of the old Top Town Games. The ‘Top Team’ challenges gave some light-hearted relief to school children at the end of a challenging year.
“Contributing to the community through the ‘Top Team’ events was very fulfilling for me and it was great to see people enjoying themselves,” she says.
The practical aspects of the internship combined with the theory taught at CPIT have helped Lucy progress quickly into an exciting career, expanding on the knowledge gained in her Bachelor of Communications.
“I would recommend CPIT study to everyone. I feel confident and ready to take on my new role now. Events Management is where I really see myself and I know I can do it because I have done it before,” she says.
Lucy is excited about her career in the events industry in Canterbury. “It is such a great opportunity for events to really take off in the region and I can’t wait to contribute to that,” she says.
