Christchurch's Metro bus system has one of the newest bus fleet, cash and card ticketing, plus a network of high frequency services at peak times, including several that pass nearby the CPIT Madras Street Campus.

Due to the central city cordon, there are changes to some of the lines including frequency and alteration to routes. You can find out what these are on the Metro info website. There are also now two terminus locations where buses may terminate at or go through. These are at:

  • Parkside – Hagley Avenue, between St Asaph Street and Riccarton Avenue.
  • Bealey Avenue – South side between Durham Street North and Montreal Street.

Fares and Metrocard

You can pay for cash for a single fare which is determined by the distance or zones that you are travelling or you can use a Metrocard.

You need to purchase a Metrocard and put credit on it. Each time you travel by bus you can use your Metrocard and the correct fare will be automatically deducted. Using a Metrocard can save you 25% on the normal fare each time you travel.

You can purchase and top up a Metrocard at the CPIT Welcome Desk, located in the Atrium of the Rakaia Centre, Madras Street Campus. Metrocards and topping up are also available at a variety of locations around the city and you can even top-up online.

Fees

Determined by where you are travelling to and whether you pay by cash or Metrocard. The Metroinfo website has more information.
