ArtBox's exhibition this month is a collaboration of works by Sarah Anderson.

The images exhibited in Botanical Fandango have all been fashioned from vegetables and other botanical specimens. They have been observed and recorded by the artist during various stages of decomposition, and through a process of drawing and re-imagining, a series of ‘creatures’ have evolved to create this suite of paintings.

The works explore the concept of memento mori -remember you will die, which was a familiar motif in C16th & C17th paintings. Issues around food, death, decay and transversely the joy of life are evident, the exuberance and implied motion these works exude clearly indicate a sense of dance – reinforced by the choice of titles and returning again to referencing the dance of life & conversely death.

Exhibition will run from 10 September - 5 October.

ArtBox's exhibition this month is by Jane Barry.

Jane's works on paper are a blend of monoprint and engraving, further embellished with hand applied Indian ink and elements of collage. Rice paper printed by press from the applied impression of varied texture and textile, torn and cut and re-assembled to become mosaic-like.

This series of work evolved into an enigma of attired human and bird-like forms. An idea of transformation, reinvention and/or disguise. The merging with or emergence from our surroundings, whether by form or other, determined through disposition, spirit, aesthetic and character. They are a nod to something a little theatrical, a bit of glamour: to the chameleon in all of us. (see image - JB Bird of a feather).

Exhibition runs from 8 October - 2 November.

ArtBox's exhibtiion tis month is by Linda James.

Linda's paintings are of men running and pivot around one of Eadweard Muybridge’s running men in his Human Figure in Motion series. The English photographer Muybridge pioneered work in photographic studies of motion, and early work in motion picture production in America in the 1880’s. He captured images of motion using trip wires and multiple cameras.

Linda has connected this to images of running men taken from newspapers collected over the last ten years. She uses Muybridge’s photograph as her fulcrum – a point of balance to present these works as an installation of paintings based on photographs (the captured image).

Linda connects Muybridge’s photographic images, Reuter satellite images travelling around the world, with the slow labour of the painting process. The installation explores the circular nature of time and space, and the connections between the past, the present, and the future.
