CPIT is a learning organisation, committed to the highest quality provision of teaching and learning experiences for students and staff. Our Staff Development team provides a regular programme of activities, lectures and training sessions. These are available for most staff and cover a very broad range of subjects. CPIT provides the time and financial commitment to developing its staff. It is very much an individual based approach within our learning organisation framework.
OCP is a confidential employer funded service available to any staff member experiencing personal difficulties that may affect performance, for example anxiety, illness, career development, family or relationship difficulties.
CPIT pays administration costs on a superannuation scheme underwritten by AMP.
CPIT operates a number of low cost car parks for staff and students at the Madras St campus. These parks currently cost only $2 per day making it the cheapest option anywhere in town. Reserved parking is also available at a higher rate. Car parking at the Sullivan Ave campus is roadside and in paid car parking on site. The same rates apply to on site car parking.
The cover is underwritten by Tower and commences after you have been unable to work due to illness for 90 calendar days and protects 75% of your gross income for a maximum of 5 years if on claim. It is available to all permanent staff who work 15 hours per week or more.
The CPIT Health Centre provides an accessible and competitively priced service to staff and students. While primarily established for students staff are able to access Nurses, a General Practitioner, Counsellors and a Physiotherapist.
A wide range of Library and Learning Services are available to staff and the very helpful staff in the library are committed to providing excellent service.
All staff are welcome to attend and participate in research presentations given regularly by members of our staff and guest presenters.
The Chief Executive and Kaiarahi and have established Te Wānaka o Ōtautahi to assist Māori students at CPIT. Te Wānaka staff are available to assist on any issue you have. You are welcome to come over to the Whare buildings and introduce yourself.
This is a CPIT operated centre available for all staff. All staff working in the centre have an early childhood education qualification. Ten of our teachers have at least the Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). We strive to maintain ratios of 1:3 in the Nursery and 1:7 in the Preschool. Children are cared for in a supportive, creative learning environment and the centre has an excellent reputation. The centre has an excellent reputation for high quality care and places are highly sought after.
This is a bilingual Early Learning Centre for children from six months to five years offering high quality care and education in an excellent environment with emphasis on using Te Reo Māori and provides an alternative option for staff and students. While this is not a CPIT operated centre it is on the Madras St campus and is available to staff and students.
The Hairdressing section runs a salon at the Madras Street campus. Services provided are available to staff at discounted rates.
The Student's Association (CPSA) operates a gym at the Madras St campus and provides low cost gym membership for CPIT students and staff. CPIT is also able to access discounted membership for commercial gyms in the city. We also undertake "wellness" activities including team participation in the City to Surf run, wellness checks and seminars on health management. Also available is an onsite massage service which is by appointment and paid for by the staff member.
CPIT is committed to environmental sustainability. Staff are encouraged to think about alternatives to using their car as a means of getting to work A secure cycle lock up accessible by staff card is available, as are showering and changing facilities for those who cycle, walk or run to work. Public transport can bring you right to the Madras St and Sullivan Ave campuses. There are numerous recycling bins available and a commitment to minimising waste in all its forms.
Staff with over six months service (conditions apply) may be eligible for a substantial discount on all CPIT courses. CPIT is also a member of the Canterbury Tertiary Alliance and as such enables eligible staff to access fee discounts at our partner tertiary institutions in Canterbury.
Discounted membership of a variety of medical schemes available from different providers is available to members of staff and their families.
Each campus has a staffroom for the use of all staff. There are a number of food outlets on site at the Madras St campus and the Sullivan Ave campus also has a cafe serving a range of food. Most sections also have their own refreshment facilities.
CPIT's focus on practical, applied learning means that we are often able to provide the products of these classes to staff and students at reasonable prices.
The cookery section regularly run shops (phone 940 8382) offering excellent quality goods.
For applicants outside of Christchurch who are successfully appointed to a role, CPIT may contribute to relocation for the appointee and family (conditions apply).
CPIT's Madras St campus enjoys a fantastic central location within easy walking distance to vibrant High Street, shopping malls, supermarkets, movie theatres, bars and restaurants. The Sullivan Ave campus is also in close proximity to a large mall and not far from the inner city.
