Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee

The Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee (RKTC) is a subcommittee of CPIT’s Academic Board and plays a major role in guiding and monitoring academic research activities throughout the institute. The main functions of the Committee are to:

  • Promote and encourage a research culture and technology transfer.
  • Develop policies related to research.
  • Develop and review criteria and procedures for approval of staff and student research, including ethics.
  • Allocate funds from the CPIT research fund.

Membership comprises staff with designated research positions, School Research Committee Chairs, and other relevant representatives.

The RKTC meets regularly throughout the year on a 5-6 weekly basis, and forms subgroups as necessary to undertake specific tasks. All research that is carried out under the auspices of CPIT requires approval via the RKTC; delegations are authorised by the RKTC for approval of some projects and grants, eg to School Research Committees, the Manager of Research and Knowledge Transfer and the Research Co‑ordinator.

The RKTC has an Ethics Subcommittee which provides advice and guidance on ethical issues, and has delegation to give ethics clearance for academic research that involves human subjects or participants.

School Research Committees

Each School that delivers a degree programme/s has a School Research Committee (see list below). In some cases, a Committee may be formed to cover more than one School where there are synergies between their areas of research.

The main functions of the School Research Committee are to:

  • Support the research culture and activities within the School.
  • Provide advice to research staff.
  • Endorse and approve (under delegation) research applications and ensure these meet required standards.
