Research at CPIT supports many undergraduate degrees through student projects, as well as providing research and development services to the private and public sectors.
Staff research
The majority of the research is carried out by degree teaching staff, and most can be categorised as either applied research or creative endeavour. Staff engaged with the private and public sectors are involved in product and process development and the delivery of organisational innovation services.
Staff research outcomes are shared through publication in peer reviewed journals or trade publications, conferences and workshops.
CPIT’s research is assessed by the Tertiary Education Commission 'Performance Based Research Fund' (PBRF). Funding for research comes from there and other internal funds, and staff are also encouraged to make applications to external research funding organisations.
Student research
Our students undertake internships, often project based as part of their training. Student research projects can be designed to fit industry or community needs. With a range of expertise and equipment CPIT can assist industry through technology transfer such as pilot plants, prototypes, process optimisation and specialised production runs.
Industry research
CPIT provides industry and community access to specialised research equipment including The Zone sports science and wellness centre. We encourage people to make the most of the state of the art facilities available at CPIT.
We also collaborate with industry through strategic joint research and development ventures.
