Kia ora and welcome to CPIT
We can't wait to have you here on campus as one of our new students.
We’ve put together some helpful information to get you started on making the most of your time at CPIT.
If you’re unsure about anything please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff. You can message us on Facebook, Tweet your question to @CPITChCh, email info@cpit.ac.nz or call 0800 24 24 76. You can also visit us at one of our campuses.
Coming soon - your student website
To make it even easier for you to find out everything you need to know as a student we are revamping the Campus Life student website. The new website will include important updates, news, events, photos, video, noticeboards for you to use and much more.
Keep an eye out for the launch in Semester Two.
Where do I park?
Print out a map of your campus from campus maps.
At both our campuses there are several car-parks for students as well as additional public parking close by.
At our Madras Street Campus there is $2.00 per day pay and display car parking on Barbadoes Street and Allen Street. There is also a car park outside the Rakaia Centre with a rate of $1.00 per hour – Good if you are just popping in.
At the Trades Innovation Institute (TII) there is limited free parking off Sullivan Ave and Ensors Road. Your map will have the car parks marked.
To be able to use these parks you need to have the correct student parking authority sticker displayed on your windscreen. You can get your student parking authority at the Enrolments Counter at your campus. Alternatively, take your Student ID card to Security in the Rakaia Centre and they can issue you one.
How do I get my student ID?
At our Madras Street Campus, on your first day, take your student ID number to the Security Office in the Rakaia Centre and ask for a student ID card. If you are at TII, go to the main desk in the Student Services Building.
Staff will verify that you are enrolled, take your photo and provide you with your ID card. If you want access to the 24 hour computing suite at the Madras Street Campus, you need to ask to get this added.
The card is free but replacement cards cost $15.00.
How do I get my timetable?
You can access your timetable via the CPIT Student Portal using the login details provided in your offer letter or via email. You can also ask for your timetable at the Admissions and Enrolments counter, your department reception on campus, or request it by emailing info@cpit.ac.nz or calling 0800 24 24 76.
Some programmes require you to select your courses for each semester prior to finalising your timetable. If this applies to you, you will be provided with the relevant form and details via mail or email. If you have any questions about your timetable, email info@cpit.ac.nz, call 0800 24 24 76 or come in and visit us on campus.
How do I find my way around?
Print out a map of your campus from campus maps and keep it on hand.
If you’re looking at your timetable thinking - “What does C230 mean?” Here’s a handy tip: The letter is the building you should be in (use your map), the first number is the level you need to be on and the last part is the room number you look for on that level. So in this case, go to C Block, 2nd Floor, Room 30, shown as C230.
Where do I eat?
We have three cafes and a restaurant at our Madras Street Campus: Cafe X in the Rakaia Centre, the Compass Cafe in the CPSA, the Visions Pantry and Visions Restaurant. There is also a food court and several other cafes opposite the campus or within a five minute walk.
We have one onsite cafe at TII, DeliMarche in the Student Services Building, with other food venues close by.
There are also plenty of indoor and outdoor places at both campuses where you can sit and eat if you choose to bring your own food.
Where do I get my books?
At our Madras Street Campus we have an onsite bookstore called Bennetts in the CPSA Building.
You can purchase all the books from the list provided in your enrolment pack from this store as well as all your stationery. You’ll also receive additional course guides in class from your tutors.
Opening hours Monday – Thursday: 9am – 5pm Friday: 9am – 2pm
What if I don’t know anyone?
CPIT has heaps of activities going on around our campuses. Head along one of our campus events to meet some people and have fun. You’ll also meet plenty of new friends in your classes.
