Audition information
If you are planning to study Musical Arts at CPIT, you will be required to audition.

Requirements
Theory/notation
You will be asked to complete a short written test immediately before you audition to establish your knowledge of:
- Key signatures
- Note names
- Rhythmic notation
- Chord spelling
Aural
You will be asked to:
- Sing back a melody
- Identify intervals
- Identify major and minor chords
- Clap back a rhythm
Instrumental skills
Tonal instrumentalists and vocalists will be asked to demonstrate:
- Major or minor scales
- Sight read a single line melody
- Identify and/or arpegiate/play chords (gt, pno)
Drummers will be asked to demonstrate:
- Single stroke rolls (slow to fast)
- Double stroke rolls (slow to fast)
- Single strokes subdivided into:
- Triplets at MM=160
- 16ths at MM=138
- Flams
- Flam accents
- A range of feels

Performance
You need to prepare:
- A 12 bar blues to play/sing the melody and improvise on. You need to provide your own backing – either recorded or accompanying musicians. Piano, drums and amps will be provided.
And either:
- A Jazz standard. Performed in a jazz style with the melody and 1 or 2 choruses of improvisation over the form of the tune. Bassists should show the ability to play a walking line, and guitarists and pianists need to comp the chord changes over a chorus.
Or:
- A pop or rock tune of your choice that demonstrates your technique and performance skills.
