About engineering
Engineering is an exciting career option that suits practical people with an enquiring mind. Engineers generally apply scientific knowledge, mathematics and ingenuity to find practical and cost-effective solutions to technical problems. There are many ways to become an engineer, and many roles within the profession. Two of the most common are professional engineers and engineering technologists. The difference between the two once you enter the workforce is that, engineering graduates typically spend their time planning, while engineering technology graduates spend their time making plans work.*
Careers in engineering can span numerous industries but the three main areas are civil (bridges, roads, foundations, structures and environmental engineering), mechanical and electrical engineering.
