One of the great attractions to a career in engineering is the huge variety of tasks and environments in which engineers find themselves. From designing programs at a computer terminal, to overseeing maintenance operations for major structures like aircrafts, ships, heavy earth moving equipment, mobile cranes and offshore oil platforms – there are many ways to be an engineer.
The School of Engineering is located at our Madras Street Campus in Christchurch.
Industry and community
Our highly qualified tutors have worked with industry to develop engineering programmes that are relevant, up to date, and equip our students to assume key roles within the industry.
CPIT works closely with a range of businesses, institutions and organisations in engineering, information technologies and sciences to create internships, work experience placements and cutting-edge research projects. You can be confident a CPIT qualification gives employers a clear signal you have the skills, knowledge and practical experience to be effective in the workplace from day one.
Facilities
Your learning will take place in one of the most technologically advanced tertiary institutions in the country. We’re committed to keeping our engineering School at the cutting edge with purpose built facilities including:
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) suites
- Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machining
- Laboratories for making engineering measurements, building materials and electrical and electronic componentry
Subjects we teach
The main areas of engineering offered at CPIT are civil, electrical, mechanical, computer networking and computer aided design (CAD). Study options enable graduates to study a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) or a New Zealand Diploma of Engineering (NZDE) specialising in three key subject areas; mechanical, civil and electrical. Additional study options include certificates and diplomas in computer engineering, computer aided design (CAD) plus the Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Design.
We also offer a range of part-time courses in a variety of study areas.
