Each year, the CPIT School of Fashion presents two fashion shows, Debut and PITCH.
Debut is the first public showcase for School of Fashion final year students. It is the very first collection produced by the students in the final year of our fashion programmer and literally marks their debut as a designer/maker.
Each collection reflects the skills they've gained whilst completing two week works experience with a fashion design company at the start of the year.
Students have to design, produce patterns, cut, sew and finish all outfits as well as prepare all elements of the presentation. This includes everything from sourcing models to briefing stylist in hair and makeup, and provides an excellent opportunity for them to display your first steps into the industry.
PITCH presents work by all students in our fashion programme from first year to final year. The calibre of the works is outstanding and demonstrates the strong focus our school places on applied skills.
An important but less well known component of PITCH is the annual Model Auditions the Fashion School holds in October. This is a great opportunity to try your hand at modelling. One of our recent model stars, Magdalena Schoeman was this year crowned Miss World New Zealand.
PITCH has become a recognised and innovative fixture on the New Zealand fashion calendar, supported and endorsed by many of our most established designers and influential fashion industry representatives.
When you watch a PITCH parade you’re in for a thrill. Francis Hooper, designer for WORLD, who has twice appeared as a guest judge, says the show is ‘just cool’.
PITCH is part of the Ignition programme, a showcase of creativity at CPIT.
Fashion students from Years one to three present outfits that show off their skill and verve.
The presentations by the first two years’ students are built on their combined output during the year. For the Year 3 students, PITCH showcases their second collection they will have made and presented during the year.
PITCH also shows the collaborative spirit of Ignition incorporating the amazing skills of Digital Video Post Production students, creating a professional and dynamic night for industry and the public of Christchurch.
