CPIT is one of the largest and most experienced of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination centres in New Zealand. The IELTS tests English proficiency and is recognised by learning institutions and employers worldwide.

Exam registration

To sit an exam, you need to register with us and decide which date you would like to take the exam. 

Register in person

You can register in person for any exam date from Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 4pm and Friday 9am to 4pm at the Welcome Desk in the Rakaia Centre at our Madras Street Campus.

Bring with you:

  • $360 fee – Cash, credit card or cheque accepted
  • two passport sized photos no more than six months old
  • your current passport.

Register by mail 

If you are not able to register in person, you may register by mail.

Send the following:

  • Completed registration form, available from the IELTS website.
  • Photocopy of your passport
  • Two recent photos of yourself
  • A cheque made out to "CPIT" for $360.

Exam information

  • The exam is always on a Saturday afternoon and will take about four hours.
  • Your interview may be scheduled any day of the week before the exam. If you live outside Christchurch, your interview will be scheduled on the morning of your exam day.
  • Letters containing information about exam day are sent out one week before your interview day. Please read these carefully. The letter will advise your interview time, tell you where to go and what to bring.
  • Carparking is available around the campus on the day.

Exam results

After taking the exam, you can look-up your provisional IELTS result online on the IELTS website. Please note the preview of your IELTS result cannot be used as official confirmation of your test result.

Your official Test Report Form will be posted to you 13 days after the exam. Your official result is usually available online 13 days after your test date and will remain available for 28 days thereafter.

If you are unhappy with your exam results you may request a re-mark on any or all of the exam areas. You must request a re-mark within one month of the issue of the Test Report Form.
