How to apply

Download and review the job description. This, details the ideal qualifications and experience we are looking for, plus outlines the hours, salary and duties of the role.

Complete the online application form. Please note, we require at least two recent employment related referees.

Insert attachments. Remember to attach your CV and covering letter, plus any other supporting documention required.

Submit your application. Once we have received and registered your application , you will receive an email acknowledgement.

The selection process

As soon as possible after the closing date the shortlisting panel will consider all applications. Please allow two weeks from the closing date as a minimum for us to complete this process.

You will be contacted by phone if selected for an interview.

If your application is unsuccessful you will be notified by email. Please note it is not our policy to give feedback to candidates who are not shortlisted at this stage of the process.

The interview

Interview panels at CPIT are made up of the appointing manager, and between one and four other people knowledgeable about the skills required for the position. You will receive information about the panel at the time your interview is arranged.

If you are outside New Zealand you may be initially interviewed by conference call. If appropriate, we may arrange for you to visit CPIT.

Interview style

We use an interactive and behaviourally-based interview style. Each panel member will have a question or area of questions to ask you that will focus on your past experiences in relation to the key areas defined in the job description.

Behavioural interviewing focuses on your past behaviour in actual work or other relevant situations. Be prepared to discuss examples of your experience which demonstrate how well you fit the work to be undertaken.

Panel members will take notes throughout the interview.

Your interview will also give you the opportunity to find out more about the day to day aspects of the position.

If you are interviewed in person, you are welcome to bring whanau or a support group to the interview. Please advise the person who arranges the interview if you intend to do this.

Practical component

Academic positions

You may be asked to prepare and present a teaching session based on the area of expertise required for the position.

We will give you full details of what is required at the time your interview is arranged.

General staff positions

The interview process will normally include a practical exercise based on the duties of the role as outlined in the job description.

Management positions

A presentation on a relevant management topic is generally required. The presentation audience will usually comprise a range of staff and the interview panel.

We will give you full details of what is required and who will attend at the time your interview is arranged.

Psychometric testing

We use psychometric testing for most management positions. The tools to be used are determined by the level of the position.

When you are selected to undertake testing, information about the specific test/s will be provided.

Candidate selection

Once interviews and other selection processes have been completed, the selection panel will convene to select the successful candidate.

It is at this stage that we normally complete reference checks, although they may be conducted before interviewing.

If the results of these checks are positive, you will be telephoned by a Human Resources Advisor and offered the role. You will then receive a formal offer of appointment in writing.

Please allow up to two weeks for a final decision; however we aim to advise you of the outcome as soon as possible after your interview.

If you have been interviewed but are unsuccessful, you will be advised by e-mail and in writing after the appointment has been confirmed. You are welcome to request feedback following your interview.

Timeframe

Depending on the role and each situation, the selection process can take anywhere from three weeks to two months after the application closing date.
